ETD-100L Portable Explosive Detector (Liquid Injector)

Products • Security and Defence

Designed to operate within the rigors of forensic and other laboratory applications, delivering a world-first, portable ETD targeting inorganic explosives.

Key Features

GreyScan ETD-100L: the proven technology of the ETD-100 with the ability to accurately analyse a liquid sample.

Developed in response to demand from forensic agencies and laboratory groups.

Inorganic detection

The only ETD to detect inorganic salt-based explosives such as the nitrates, chlorates and perchlorate used in home made explosives.

Faster results

Analytical results with high accuracy and sensitivity in less than a minute, compared to time-consuming laboratory equivalents.

Software capabilities

The software capability provides an expanded functionality with the ability to streamline data acquisition and analysis. The software can also output data in a format that can be inputted into a LIMS.

Versatile

Effective as either a stand-alone unit, or as a quick at-site field triage unit enabling faster, time-critical decision making.

About ETD-100L Liquid Injector Portable Explosive Detector

Fast, accurate, portable and easy to use, the ETD-100L has been designed in response to demand from various forensic agencies and laboratory groups. With the proven technology of the ETD-100 but with the ability to inject a liquid sample, the ETD-100L is optimized to detect explosive compositions that contain inorganic materials. The deployment of the ETD-100L increases the detection probability of homemade explosives (HMEs) and Improvised Explosive devices (IEDs), which are increasingly becoming the predominate threat used in terrorist activities around the world.
The use of inorganic substances to manufacture potent HMEs is preferred due to the ease of access of these raw materials. As a result, salt-based explosives such as nitrates, chlorates and perchlorates are the biggest threat in the world of terrorism today. Used in more than 80% of all non-commercial explosives, these compounds are the least detectable, despite being made from easy-to-source substances.
Additionally, pyrotechnics (including flares and fireworks) consist of inorganic substances (commonly nitrates, chlorates and/or perchlorates) that allow for an extended high temperature burn, as well as creating colours upon detonation. The threat to public safety stemming from the use of flares and fireworks at public events is significant; the use of pyrotechnic devices in public gatherings is an all too often news headline around the world. In addition to the potential for harm to persons, these risks can add a financial burden to organisations exposing organisations to reputational damage, substantial fines, bans and/or other penalties that can hit the bottom line.
Suitable for both mobile and stationary applications, the ETD-100L is as effective as either a stand-alone unit, or as a quick at-site field triage unit enabling faster, time-critical decision.
